Project Description

Overview

Fulfills a U.S.Geological Survey and Energy Resources Program need for advanced theoretical and applied seismic reflection data acquisition, processing, interpretation, visualization, and data management capabilities and expertise in support of key petroleum resource estimation, geologic framework, reservoir characterization, basin analysis, and digital data management tasks ongoing within the organization. Therefore, the primary objectives for this project are to maintain, as best as possible, a state-of-the-art 2D, 3D and 4D seismic data acquisition, processing, interpretation, visualization and data management facility and provide experts to science projects who are experienced and knowledgeable in all aspects of seismic reflection technology and procedures.

Fiscal Year 2006 Tasks

Geophysical Processing
Covers the operation, maintenance and upgrade of the 2D/3D seismic
reflection data processing, interpretation, and visualization facility.

National Energy Research Seismic Library (NERSL)

Covers the operation, maintenance and support for the National Energy
Research Seismic Library (NERSL) geophysical digital data archive and
repository. NERSL provides internet download capabilities for publicly available datasets.

spotlightSEISMIC SPOTLIGHT

Welcome Kristen Lewis!

Dr. Kristen Lewis, has joined the seismic group as a geophysicist specializing in seismic data interpretation. Krissy, as she prefers to be called, officially joined our group on March 3 and comes to us from BP with more than 5 years experience in seismic data interpretation. Krissy received her BA with honors, cum laude, in physics from Ohio Wesleyan University and her Ph.D. in geophysics from Colorado School of Mines. Krissy's interest at CSM was in moment tensor inversion of shallow seismic data. Welcome to our group Krissy!

National Petroleum Reserve, Alaska
(NPR-A) Legacy Data Archive

The National Petroleum Reserve, Alaska, (NPR-A) Legacy Data Archive represents one of the largest geological and geophysical data sets held by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
