Conventional Petroleum Sources

The USGS Energy Resources Program is continuing its research and evaluation of Conventional (Discrete) Natural Gas resources. These are:

  • Oil and natural gas resources that exist in discrete deposits usually bounded by a down-dip water contact from which oil, gas, and natural gas liquids can be extracted.
  • Typical oil and gas assessment methodology, engineering, and production techniques are utilized to characterize and develop this resource; typically natural pressured wells, artificial lifting, and artificial injection (gas, water)
