Uranium Information System
To be released Fall 2008

Information about uranium mines and prospects can be accessed from this webpage.  This information is (will be) searchable is two ways:

  1. If you know the mine name. If you have a specific mining property name, you can search for information about the property through our Uranium Mineral Resources Data System (UMRDS).  UMRDS is a searchable database derived from the USGS Mineral Resources Database (MRDS).  For more information about the origins of the USGS’ MRDS go to the webpage http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/fs122-00/fs122-00.pdf

UMRDS will have many added features including links to a map server which will provide you with a map of the property location.  In addition, there will be many links to USGS publications which may 1) describe detailed geologic and other information about the property; 2) describe the mining district in which it is located; and 3) describe the genesis of this type of deposit (roll-front sandstone, tabular sandstone, vein, etc.).

  2. Browse by a map. If you have an area of interest where you would like to identify the location of uranium mines and prospects, you can go directly to our uranium map server and locate the geographic area of interest and then click on uranium mine and prospect locations that show up as the map server focuses in on the area of interest.

As time and resources permit, we will add links from the mines and prospects to other non-USGS publications including reports and maps that may describe information gathered by other agencies.  For example, virtually all uranium mines and prospects have been described in published documents of the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) program of the Department of Energy.
